The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), launched on July 1st, 2024, is now operating across all Major selected hospitals in Kenya. SHIF is regulated by the Social Health Authority (SHA), established under section 25 of the Act to provide healthcare services from empanelled and contracted healthcare providers and facilities on referral from primary health facilities.
Knowing which healthcare facilities support SHIF is essential with these new changes in the Kenyan healthcare sector. As of this article’s publication, 1442 Faith-based and Private hospitals in Kenya have signed contracts with SHA to start supporting SHIF. This means you can now access services covered by the National Insurance Fund (NHIF), such as maternity, surgical, optical, and in-patient &Outpatient with SHA.
