For 18 years, Safaricom M-Pesa has become a key cornerstone that has shaped Kenya’s financial ecosystem as well as the global space since its launch in 2007. Today, M-Pesa has expanded its reach to six other countries in Africa, including Tanzania, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Ghana, and Egypt, with Kenya alone having an active subscriber base of over 35 million users.
If you use M-Pesa for your daily operations, whether it’s sending money, withdrawing money from an agent, or using its Paybill features, knowing how much transactions will cost you is essential. M-Pesa charges or transactions are usually updated annually. In 2025, the M-Pesa rates were not updated, but remained the same as those used in 2024. But what are these new M-Pesa charges for 2025?
New M-Pesa Charges Calculator
Before I walk you through the new M-Pesa charges, I have built a tool that helps you know all the M-Pesa charges for all types of transactions, including both personal charges, Pochi la Biashara, and even Business till charges. The reason for building this tool was quite simple: to help you get accurate rates updated in real time based on Safaricom M-Pesa charges.
But unlike any other normal calculator for M-Pesa, this tool stands out because it allows you to see the amount you need to send and even reverse withdrawal fees, under the calculation mode. And it’s not that if you have a large M-Pesa statement that you need to analyze to get all details, even the minute ones – the tool can do it for you. And the best part is that you get free access to not only M-Pesa tools, such as the Globally pay calculator, M-Pesa loans and savings calculators, but also the ability to embed the calculator directly on your website.
You can visit the tool here on our website directly at https://joweni.com/mpesa/ or even try it below:

M-Pesa Agent VS ATM Withdrawals: When to Use
So should you withdraw your M-Pesa from an agent or at ATM? Honestly, this depends on you, but agent withdrawals start at just Ksh 11 for small amounts (50-100) and gradually increase to Ksh 309 for maximum withdrawals up to Ksh 250,000, providing consistent availability across all transaction sizes. In contrast, ATM withdrawals are only available for four specific ranges and consistently charge higher fees, starting at Ksh 35 for amounts between 1,501 and 2,500, and peaking at Ksh 203 for larger withdrawals between 20,001 and 35,000.
If you are looking for an effective way to save money during transactions for amounts under Ksh 10,000, consider using agent withdrawals, as the savings are most significant below this limit, as shown in the line graph above. Even for larger amounts in the 20,001-35,000 range, agent withdrawals remain more cost-effective.
